SPEECH IS KING
There are two new big hitters on the block in the world of speech content, and new results from established stations and shows prove that UK radio is still one of the best platforms for delivering key messaging and stories
The weekly reach for UK radio as whole is up, with listeners tuning in for an extra half an hour of live radio each week, and now over 90% of the country are turning to the radio for their news, features, competitions and stories
1. Launched in March – talkRADIO hosts famous radio faces such as Paul Ross, Penny Smith and Julia Hartley-Brewer. Their weekly reach is an impressive 224,000
2. An old brand given a new facelift after a well-publicised launch. Virgin Radio, home to Edith Bowman, Jamie East and Russell Kane reaches over 400,000 each week
3. Following a tumultuous Brexit vote, Radio 4 sees their weekly reach breach 11 million, and the hugely influential Today Programme now has over 7.4 million listeners
4. Jazz FM, home to the popular Business Breakfast slot gains over 100,000 listeners and Dilse 1035am in London triples their listenership in the last quarter, up to 103,000
5. LBC is the number one commercial station in London, with a share of 6.6%. Nick Ferrari’s breakfast show now hits 977,000 listeners – his highest ever figure
